Jack Dyson retains Huddersfield Merit

Bowling News

Jack Dyson won the Huddersfield Merit for a second successive year when beating Crosland Moor bowler John Webster 21-14 in the Final on Saturday. This added to the Summer Handicap already in Jack's trophy cabinet this year. A long day with the competition starting at 10am on four greens before culminating at Brockholes BC for the serious business in the afternoon. Worryingly the total number of entries dipped once again with 49 bowlers entering as compared with 62 last year.

Dave Parkin adds ....

Well done to Jack Dyson on retaining his Huddersfield Association Merit title and yesterday's win equals the all-time record of 4 wins: Lawrence Kilner (1921, 1923, 1924 & 1928) Ashley Daykin (2001, 2002, 2005 & 2007) Jack Dyson (2010, 2016, 2023 & 2024)

He came through a decent field of 49 that at the quarter final stage had 5 previous winners & the reigning Champion of Champions winner left.

Well done to Brockholes for sponsoring & hosting & the Association officials for putting on the Merit. Jack has won his 4 merits at Lindley BC, Kirkheaton C & BC, Golcar Lib & now Brockholes.

He warmed up for it by qualifying at Crosland Moor on Friday night & now moves on to the Yorkshire Cup final today at Rastrick before a last game shootout for the Mirfield League at Crossgates on Tuesday for Thongsbridge.

Throw in a possible Monday night match for Meltham away at Summit in the Chaddy League plus a Thursday night away game at Denby Grange in the Ossett & Horbury League for leaders, Skelmanthorpe, before Friday night's final at Crosland Moor . Next Saturday, he can walk his whippet & try on his collection of flat caps for the hardworking Yorkshireman will be needed in the Crosfield Cup final the next day.

Just a quiet week of bowling for the Hoover
