Winter League
Preview of the fixtures scheduled for Thursday 11 January in Divisions 5 & 6
Jackson Bridge and Slaithwaite are both 4-points behind the Division 5 leader as they go head-to-head this Thursday. They are 2 of a group of 5 teams within 6-points of each other behind Brockholes B who sit proudly at the top at present. This week they take on Springwood C who they drew 4-4 with earlier in the season. Outlane are in that chasing pack and will be looking for a big win to support their promotion bid when they take on bottom-of-the-table Netherton Con B.
There is a big game at the foot of the table as Mirfield A and Huddersfield Recreation Club B meet with both teams level on points and games played with the loser destined to occupy the second relegation place come Thursday evening. The teams drew 4-4 earlier in the season and both teams continue to struggle for any sign of improved form. Mirfield A haven't won for 5 matches whilst the Recreation Club are even worse having not won since the opening day of the season and fearful of a second successive relegation.
There is a top versus bottom clash in Division 6 as Linthwaite Hall sit comfortably 10-points clear having only lost once all season. Their opponents, Mirfield B. will be heartened by their second win of the season last week but remain 9-points away from safety from relegation. Kirkheaton Con B are also in that drop zone but will relish meeting Golcar C&BC who have lost their last two matches to the teams top and bottom of the table although the Golcar side did win the meeting of the two teams earlier in the season.
With 2nd-placed New Mill C having a bye this week that opens the path for the Rugby Club to move into the second promotion place if they can shrug aside the threat from their Thursday opponents Cowcliffe B who have the better recent form having won 4 of their last 5 fixtures. Having played the top three teams in the division in their last three fixtures Lockwood Con B will be thankful for having some less intimidating opponents this week when they take on Broad Oak who are looking for a first win in four and a step up from becoming involved in a relegation squabble. Enjoy your bowling.
