I am very proud to announce that Kirkheaton Cons are the 2024 Bistro Champions after beating second in the table Longwood 98-94 in the Final at Brockholes on Friday. Turning around a 12 points deficit (56-68 including handicaps) after the first three pairs had completed to run out deserved winners.
As well as being the defending Bistro Champions, Longwood have always been formidable opponents for the Kirkheaton team having beaten them twice already this season. This was a first Final appearance of the Kirkheaton Con team for many years, so long ago in fact that no-one can recall the occasion. As captain of the team for the past 6 years it was a massive blow to miss out on the Final altogether but I was kept well up to date but thoroughly frustrated, through WhatsApp correspondents posting regular updates to my Portugal sunbed!
I was especially pleased that Ron Swallow was well enough to collect the trophy on behalf of the team as he hasn't been able to play for a month after a health setback. The photos and scorecard below complete the record of the day.
Mr Swallow didn't actually play in the match. He accepted the trophy on behalf of his teammates.
