Kirklees to meet clubs on green closures next week

Bowling News

Finally Kirklees Council has decided to fulfill their promise made last November to have a public consultation on the proposed closure of some of their park greens including Greenhead Park. They have offered a series of dates and times next week to all clubs that have a vested interest in these park facilities which the Greenhead Park teams certainly have. The meeting with the Greenhead Park teams is scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon.

We have previously reported on the threat to these park greens which the Greenhead Park Bowling Club has called home for the last 97 years. The club was told to expect the worse when speculation mounted about the cost-cutting exercise which had been extended to park services. This may be a final opportunity to address the people who can influence the outcome of the decisions on these greens.

A similar situation in Leeds is drawing national attention with the BBC reporting on the threat to close half of the 47 bowling greens in the city which would seriously damage our sport in a major venue. Yorkshire is seen as a hotbed for bowling and anything that damages that image is damaging the sport nationally.
