Review of the 10-Man League Divisions 3, 4 & 5 fixtures played on Tuesday 18 June
The 10-Man League's last unbeaten record was blown away this week as the Division 5 leaders, Netherton Con B, lost for the first time this season. An emphatic 8-1 home win for David Brown Sports reduced the leaders previous 9-point lead down to just a two-points difference. It was quite a humbling experience for the Netherton team as their aggregate total was a miserly 88 chalks. That outcome was warmly welcomed by more than just the winners as it brought the leaders within the range of two more opponents who recorded good wins on Tuesday. Third-placed Dalton won 7-2 away at Primrose Hill Lib and they are now 3 points off a promotion place which also saw the losers drop two places to 7th.
The Kirkheaton Con B teams showed their A team clubmates that they can match their best scores by copying their A team's home 9-0 whitewash win of the previous week. Successive 9-0 home wins on the postage stamp green puts the club's B team firmly back in contention for the second promotion spot.
A 122-119 aggregate scoreline saw New Mill B stagger over the line to record a 5-4 win over Greenhead Park whilst an even narrower winning aggregate of 127-125 saw Broad Oak B flattered with a 7-2 win over Almondbury BC B. In the only other fixture an eight-man Hemplow B side were still good enough to register a 7-2 home win over Holmfirth B.
Big wins for the top trio in Division 3 saw Elland WMC finally depose Denby Dale from the top spot but only on a better Aggregate For total after an 8-1 home win over Outlane. Denby Dale didn't do much wrong in clocking up a 7-2 home win over Slaithwaite who drop a place to 8th.
Brockholes A stay very much in contention for honours and are just 3 points behind the joint leaders after an 8-1 away win at Skel Windmill which left the losers dropping two places in the table and into a relegation place. That was also due to Hemplow A and Springwood picking up three points each from their away fixtures this week against higher-placed teams.
Springwood were unfortunate not to return home from Lindley Lib B with more than the three points as they lost the aggregate by a single point at 122-123. Hemplow A were also close to more than three points with just a five-point aggregate difference going down 118-123 away at Holmfirth A.
Foot of the table Thorpe Green continue to pick up valuable away points in defeats with another three collected at 4th placed Paddock I&C this week to keep them well in touch with at least three more teams as the bottom four are all in trouble with just 2 points between them.
The leading three teams in Division 4 all won this week and are starting to inch away from the next four teams who all lost this week. Lockwood Con B made it four consecutive wins with a 7-2 home success over Meltham B. Kirkheaton C&BC A were another home winner beating Marsh United B 8-1 whilst Milnsbridge B stay in the hunt in 3rd place after a 7-2 away win at Lindley BC B.
The chasing pack of four teams all lost away matches this week for as well as Marsh United B going down 1-8 at Kirkheaton C&BC A there were away defeats for Huddersfield Recreation Club (2-7 at Thongsbridge B), Marsh Lib (3-6 at Huddersfield RUBC) and Ravensknowle Park (2-7 at Brockholes B).
The wins for the Thongsbridge and Brockholes B teams were not enough to lift them out of the relegation tussle as they remain in the trio of teams fighting to stay out of the 2nd relegation place and trying to avoid accompanying the seeming inevitability of Lindley BC B dropping down a level.
