A preview of the Divisions 4 & 5 fixtures scheduled for Monday 29 January
Division 3 teams please note:
The last day of the season fixtures scheduled for Monday 4 March have now been moved forward to Friday 23 February. This is at the request of the host club to enable an early start to be made on the pre-summer season work programme. Bowlsnet has been updated to reflect these changes.
If Milnsbridge B retain any hope of earning promotion from Division 3 this season then the hour to show that resolve is on Monday morning when they take on Marsh United who currently sit one place above them in the table and in the second promotion place. They are 22 points adrift and this really is the last chance saloon for the Milnsbridge team. Even a big win may be too late to push forward any ambitions but they do have to play the Marsh United team twice before the season ends and those 16 points could come in very handy if things begin to get tight.
We have mentioned before the possibility that three teams may get relegated from each division if the number of teams adds up to our preferred model of 8 teams in a division. That all depends on the number of new teams we attract for next season along with the number of host greens that are available to us.
If three teams are to be relegated from Division 3 then four teams could be looking over their shoulders at the emerging threat. Thorpe Green B and Lindley Lib B fill the two places above the drop zone and are level on points and games played. In turn they have matches in hand over Rastrick and Dalton just above them but in range of an assault. This will add an edge to the meeting on Monday of Rastrick and Lindley Lib B whilst Thorpe Green B have to play a resurgent Primrose Hill Lib side that have beaten both Ratsrick and Lindley Lib B in their last three fixtures.
Hanging Heaton continue on their way to the probablity of promotion by taking on Paddock I&C this Monday who haven't won in their last six matches whilst the table toppers have won their last eight matches by the same ultimate scoreline of 8-0.
Things are much tighter at the top of the Division 4 table and a top three clash could prove a real watershed moment in the title and promotion race. The leaders are New Mill B who have to play third-placed Lindley Lib C who are 12-points behind the leaders but have a match in hand. Neither of the teams are in their best form of the season so it is down to which team really turns up on the day in the right mind-set. Sat between these two sparring partners is Thorpe Green C who will play Kirkheaton C&BC who are two points above the relegation places so will be geared up for the challenge.
Despite only being beaten once in their last 5 fixtures, Almondbury BC A remain in the relegation places but have to meet a Netherton Con A side still harbouring ambitions of promotion and of completing a league double over their Monday opponents. Milnsbridge C have only lost once in their last 4 matches which is not what Springwood B want to hear as their record of one win all season tells why they are sat at the foot of the table awaiting the final push to the trapdoor.
