Last day of the Division 6 season

Winter League

A preview of the Division 5 & 6 fixtures to be played on Thursday 8 February

Division 6 bowlers should be aware that this Thursday (8 February) is the closing date for entries into the Division 6 Qualifying Round of the 2024 Winter Cup competition. Full details & Entry Form

Slaithwaite have a very healthy 10-points lead at the top of the Division 5 table and could clinch promotion this Thursday if they beat third-placed Brockholes B. The Badgers remain the biggest threat to Slaithwaite's title hopes who have two matches against bottom three opponents to follow on and complete their season.

Five teams down to Jackson Bridge in 6th place could still step up to the mark to clinch that 2nd promotion place so they will all be on their toes this Thursday. Jackson Bridge could end Huddersfield Recreation Club's final hopes of avoiding relegation by beating them this week as Mirfield A go in search of a 4th successive win when meeting promotion-chasing Springwood C to secure their own Division 5 standing. The Springwood team probably have the easiest looking end of season run-in but last week's defeat to bottom-of-the-table Netherton Con B was a real hammer-blow to their promotion chances..

It is the last day of the Division 6 season with Linthwaite Hall already confirmed as the title Champions in their first season in the League. They will be presented with their trophy before the start of Thursday's fixture programme and then will have a direct influence on which team gets promoted alongside them. They face second in the table New Mill C who hold a 6-points lead over Huddersfield RUFC and one of those two teams will be promoted but it all depends on the final day's results. Whereas New Mill C have to overcome the Champions to confirm their promotion Huddersfield RUFC take on bottom-of-the-table Mirfield B who are already relegated.

One of three teams will be going down with them with nothing less than a win for Kirkheaton Con B over Lockwood Con B will do and then that might not be enough. Golcar C&BC and Broad Oak are the other two teams under pressure and they meet each other for the right to stay up. They could both stay up depending on the Kirkheaton Con result with their futures in their own hands. So there is no end-of-season feeling about any of the four final day fixtures with something at stake in all of them, just as it should be.
