Winter League
Review of the Division 1 matches played on Wednesday 3 November
In the build-up to the week's fixtures, we speculated on which would be the first team to take any points off the leaders from Lower Hopton, now we have that answer as Lindley BC took 2 points off them and nearly a little more as well, as they pushed Lower Hopton all the way to give encouragement to the other teams in the chasing pack. Peter Thornton won the opening singles match 21-17 to give mid-table Lindley the lead. The pairs match was a close affair throughout and the widest gap was at the end when the Lower Hopton pair eventually saw-off the challenge of the Linldey all-ladies pairing to run out 21-17 winners and level the aggregate score. Another tight game followed before Graham Hirst was able to take the points with the third 21-17 scoreline of the match and a 59-55 aggregate score and a 6-2 win for the leaders.
The other three Division 1 matches all finished with 8-0 scorelines with wins for Kirkheaton Cons to stay second and Clayton West who move into third place overcoming a below-par Lowerhouses quartet. The New Millers made their first team changes of the season but were still too good for Rastrick 'A' and an 8-0 scoreline enabled them to move up three places to fourth.
Action photographs from the Division 1 matches are to follow shortly.
