Winter League
A preview of the Divisions 5&6 fixtures scheduled for Thursday 18 January
LATER: Both sets of fixtures have been postponed due to frozen greens and both have been rearranged for future dates. The Division 5 fixtures at Netherton Con have been put back 24 hours and are rescheduled for Friday 19 January. The Division 6 fixtures at the Rugby Club are rescheduled for Tuesday 23 January 11.30am start time.
The Division 6 leaders are Linthwaite Hall and they will be guaranteed promotion if they win 8-0 against Kirkheaton Con B this Thursday. They have an 18-points lead over the 3rd and 4th placed teams from Cowcliffe B and The Rugby Club who both have only 3 matches left to play. The maximum points total they can accumulate is 82. An 8-0 win for Linthwaite Hall would give them a total of 84 points and a much better Aggregate For total (703-671).
They play second from bottom Kirkheaton Con B who they beat 8-0 earlier in the season and won't need all that should the Cowcliffe team fail to collect maximum points from their match against Lockwood Con B. The Rugby Club are without a match this week so will be watching events with added interest. Second-placed New Mill C will then be the only threat to stand between Linthwaite Hall and the title but first things first.
New Mill C play Golcar C&BC this week and will be aiming to keep the pressure on the leaders but still have a lot of ground to make up to deny the long-time leaders of the title. The remaining fixture this week sees Mirfield B and Broad Oak meeting with the Mirfield side raising their last hope of avoiding relegation by dragging Broad Oak back to within range of a last month assault.
Eight points separate the top five teams in Division 5. Two of them go up against each other this Thursday when Jackson Bridge (5th with 48 pts) take on Brockholes B (3rd 52 pts) and both have the leaders, Slaithwaite, within their range. Jackson Bridge lost to the leaders last week and that was a first defeat in 8 matches so they will be keen to get back on winning ways and a win over a major rival would help heal the wounds of last week's defeat.
Slaithwaite take on the in-form Almondbury BC B team who have won 4 of their last 5 matches which is an identical record to the leaders but despite that run the Almondbury team remains in the bottom half of the table. Outlane are second in the table having won 3 of their last 4 fixtures and have a match against Mirfield A this week which they need to win to keep the pressure on the Slaithwaite side.
Springwood C are handily placed in 4th place just 6-points behind the leader and a match this Thursday against Huddersfield Recreation Club B will not be causing them too many sleepless nights (sorry HRC). Netherton Con B are without a match this week and will wonder how far off safety they will be in their absence this Thursday.
