Veterans League
The 2022 Veterans League Bistro Final proved to be a one-sided venture with the Lockwood Con team making light of a 20-handicap difference to come out victorious after a 105-83 aggregate win over Division 3 side Linthwaite Hall. That was no disgrace for the team appearing in it's second final of a season that they can look back on with great satisfaction.
Although publically declaring that 20 points to recover over 5 pairs is a big ask, it rarely looked like that once the teams took to the green. By the time the first two games had been concluded the handicap difference had been breached and when the tea-break was taken as the rain decided to intervene the Cons had established a 6-point lead that was never really threatened after that. A second Bistro title for Lockwood Con to add to their 2017 success and bring them level with the Linthwaite Hall total of wins in this unique competition.
Veterans League President Alan Hirst made the presentations and thanked a host of groups and individuals that had contributed to the day and noted one of the better crowds for a League Final this season. David Sykes, as Competition Secretary, coming in for special mention as he will be standing down from that role in another week's time when the final competition of the season is completed.
