BOWLERS READY FOR APRIL 19 START

Huddersfield bowlers taking part in the Subscription, Drayton, Littlewood, and Binns Cup competitions will begin the 1969 season on Saturday 19 April 1969. Each of the competitions will run in two sections with the section leaders playing each other at the end of the season for the title.


The constitution actions made by draw on Monday at meeting of the Huddersfield and District Bowling Association held at the Zetland Hotel and presided over by Mr C H Taylor


The cups sections are:

SUBSCRIPTION Section "A" Linthwaite C BC Denby Dale Lindley Liberal Mllnsbridge BC Golcar Liberal Marsh United Almond-bury Conservative Dalton C and Paddock C and BC HC and AC Springwood BC Linthwaite Halil Section “B” Almondbury Liberal, Bradley and Colnebridge, Cowcliffe Liberal, DB Tractors, Kirkheaton Conservative, Meltham, Netherton Conservative, Newsome, Skelmanthorpe Central, Taylor Hill, Thorpe Green, Thornton Lodge


DRAYTON Section "A" Brockholes, Shepley, Kirkheaton C and BC, Waterloo BC, Moldgreen Conservative, Hillhouse and Birkby, Lindley WMC, Primrose Hilil WMC, Longwood, Paddock Institute and Conservative, Jackson Bridge, Crosland Moor Liberal

BINNS CUP Section “A” DB Tractors, Waterloo Linthwaite Hall BC, Almondbury Liberal, Netherton Conservative, Meltham, Bradley and Colnebridge, Milnsbridge BC, Marsh United, Springwood BC, Dalton, Hoilset. Section “B’ Broad Oak, Cowcliffe Liberal, Kirkheaton C BC, Lindley WMC ,Longwood, Moldgreen Conservative, New Mill, Ne.some, Skelmanthorpe Central, Slaithwaite C and BC, HC and AC, and Crosland Moor Liberal All matches will begin at 3.00 pm The final stages of the Huddersfield Merit will be played on Sunday July 13 The preliminary stages will bowled on Saturday June 21 and intermediate stages on Sunday June 29 Consequently there will be a fortnight between the intermediate and the final. The ‘‘Champion of Champions” Merit will be on Saturday October 11 Two teams Sports and Skelmanthorpe Windmill withdrew from the Association Any clubs wishing to enter the final of the Yorkshire Merit were asked to inform the Yorkshire secretary MARSDEN PLAYER WINS GEORGE NORCLIFFE of Marsden was the surprise winner of the Griffin Bowling Club handicap on Sunday he defeated Bernard Sigsworth 21-12 in the final. Norcliffe who bowled all his games on the driest part of the green all the other players tried to out-throw each other on the waterlogged ground beat Eddie Rocks 21—17 in the semi-final and Sigsworth defeated Jack Horsfleld (Keighley) 21—14 in other semi-final
