Lowerhouses win Battle of the Giants

Veterans League

Review of the matches played on Tuesday 21 May in Divisions 1 & 2 of the 10-Man League

The Battle of the Division 1 Giants went the way of Lowerhouses by 6-3 who retain top spot and damage Golcar Lib's title retention aims. That provides a setback to Golcar Lib but they remain in contention in 5th place but now 8 points behind Lowerhouses who stretch away at the top of the table.

Four points behind the leaders comes a revitalised Longwood side who were pushed all the way by a Netherton Con team still seeking a first win of the season. A 5-4 home win for Longwood kept them in 2nd place but was below their own expectations.

Three of the Division 1 fixtures went the way of the visiting teams with Marsh United A and Lockwood Con A both having wins to add to Lowerhouses success. Marsh United relied on their better aggregate score to edge the points 5-4 over Cowcliffe and Lockwood Con A had a 7-2 away win at Lindley BC A and overtook them to claim third place in the table. Clayton West lost 2-7 at Waterloo to drop into the relegation places vacated by Kirkheaton Con A who beat Rastrick 8-1

Meltham A, Elland C&BC and Milnsbridge A were all relegated from Division 1 last season and all three are determined to make it a sabbatical single season in Division 2 to recharge their batteries and then return to the top level. These three teams currently occupy the top three positions in the table with only Lindley Lib A in shouting distance of them. An emphatic 9-0 home whitewash win for Elland over Shepley this week confirmed their commitment to a promotion battle.

Meltham and Milnsbridge were both away from home but both had big wins with Meltham staying top after an 8-1 win at Broad Oak A. Milnsbridge got a first away win of the season when they took 7 points from their trip to play a struggling Almondbury BC A side.

Almondbury Lib moved up 4 places in the table to 8th after seeing off a visiting Golcar Lib B team 6-3. One point separates the bottom five teams which are the same bottom five teams prior to this week's fixtures. That includes Linthwaite Hall who went down 2-7 at Thongsbridge A.
