Lowerhouses win big and go top

Veterans League

Review of the 10-Man League Divisions 1 & 2 fixtures played on Tuesday 30 April

Week 4 of the season and we are already on to our 4th different Division 1 leader. After Lockwood Con A, Marsh United A, Lindley BC A we now have Lowerhouses as the latest leaders in Division 1 after a 7-2 away win at Rastrick on Tuesday. They took over from Lindley BC A who sat proudly top for just 7 days when a 1-8 defeat at Golcar Lib A saw them drop 5 places to 6th. However they are only 3 points behind the new leaders in a very congested top half of the table.

Even in the individual matches things couldn't be much closer with three of the 6 matches ending 5-4. That included an away win for Lockwood Con A over Cowcliffe and home wins for Kirkheaton Con A (over Clayton West) and Longwood (over Marsh United A). Netherton Con A are still seeking their first win of the season after going down at Waterloo by 7-2.

Meltham A lost their Division 2 unbeaten record when going down 3-6 to their nearest rivals, Elland C&BC, and their lead has been reduced to a single point. That leaves the Elland side as the only unbeaten team in the division. The top two have already opened up a sizeable gap of 6 points over the chasing pack over Lindley Lib A who won 6-3 away at Almondbury Lib.

There were first wins of 2024 for Shepley and Broad Oak A who beat Golcar Lib B (7-2) and Milnsbridge A (6-3) respectively. That just leaves Linthwaite Hall without a win adding a 3-6 away defeat at Almondbury BC A to their previous 3 defeats.
