Preview of the fixtures in the 6-Man League to be played on Monday 5 August
Manic Monday in the 6-Man League starts in Division 1 where the top two teams in the table go head-to-head as the leaders, Marsh United A, entertain 2nd-placed Shepley A. Shepley have actually got the more impressive form guide with only one defeat in their last 11 fixtures and that must be discounted as a one-off blip against lowly Brockholes A. The scalp of Marsh United A is included in that run and an away win would surely end up with the teams switching positions. However the table-toppers have an unblemished home record which they intend to extend and the current 3-points lead is something they will be looking to preserve.
Similar situation in Division 2 as the leaders, Clayton West, have home advantage over 2nd-placed Marsh Lib A with only a 5-points cushion between the teams despite the fact that Marsh Lib have won 4 less matches than their Monday opponents. The problem being that Clayton West have won 9 of their 16 victories by the 5-2 scoreline with only a single 7-0 whitewash win to their credit all season whereas the Marsh team have only recorded three 5-2 winning scorelines with the remaining 9 all being greater than that. Clayton West have only lost one match all season and that was their last one when they tasted defeat for the first time when going down 2-5 at Lindley Lib B. Is that the start of the rot setting in or was it a one-off blip in their cake-walk to the title? Monday will tell us.
Brockholes B and Denby Dale continue to dominate the Division 3 table with a 12-points gap between the teams but 2nd-placed Denby Dale have a game in hand over their rivals. Both teams have very winnable matches this week although both come into those matches on the back of defeats in their previous fixtures.
Brockholes B have home advantage over Holmfirth B and will be looking to recover from losing last time out by 2-5 at Thongsbridge B who have moved threateningly into third place in the table. That ended a run of 6 straight wins for the leaders. Holmfirth B have their own problems after suffering a 3rd home defeat of the season in their last match when going down 2-5 to Marsh Lib B who sit one place above them but only on 'goal difference'.
Denby Dale have only lost twice all season but that includes their last fixture which was by 3-4 at Skel Windmill B so they will be keen to immediately bounce back from that this Monday. Where better place to attempt that recovery than at bottom-of-the-table Shepley B and a repeat of the 7-0 scoreline when the teams last met would suit their purpose.
The Manic Monday top fixtures promise much but will the results tell us a different story come Manic Monday tea-time?
