Winter League
Preview of the matches to be played in Divisions 1 & 5 on Monday 22 January
League matches in four different divisions this Monday with a relegation 16-pointer in Division 1 as teams begin to catch up on
lost matchdays last week. There is just the one top division match on Monday as Meltham and Lowerhouses meet in a match that Lowerhouses really cannot afford to lose. No team wants to get relegated from the top tier in the League, but no team wants to get relegated this year for a special reason.
Looking ahead to next season in Division 2 I can see the two teams promoted from Division 3 being Hanging Heaton and Marsh United. They will be joined by two teams dropping out of Division 1 and one of those very much looks like Golcar Lib at present. No team would like to end up in a Division 2 along with these top three teams fighting for two promotion places. It is your worst nightmare so that is why Lowerhouses cannot afford not to win their match with Meltham and resurrect their survival hopes. Please note this match has a 12noon start time at Milnsbridge BC.
Three rearranged Division 5 fixtures from last week are rescheduled for Monday with the fourth one being Springwood C taking on Huddersfield Recreation Club B. This will now be played starting at 10.00am on Thursday 25 January prior to the start of the scheduled Thursday fixture programme for that date.
Just to complicate things a little further only the two singles games in the Slaithwaite v Almondbury BC B will be played on Monday with the pairs match being held over until Thursday 25 January with a 10.00am start time. Although there are five places in the table between these two teams they have identical recent result records. Both have won 4 of their last 5 matches and Almondbury won the earlier meeting of the two teams by 6-2 in November.
Outlane and Brockholes B are well-positioned to take full advantage of any slip-up that the leaders may experience. Both are on 52 points, just 4-points behind Slaithwaite and both have easier-looking fixtures than the leaders this week. Outlane play Mirfield A whilst Brockholes B have to overcome Jackson Bridge who lost for the first time in eight fixtures in their last match and remain very much in the promotion race.
