Review of the results from the Divisions 3 & 4 fixtures played on Monday 12 February
Some of the details from the top of Division 3 have been tidied up after the latest round of fixtures with Marsh United joining Hanging Heaton in a guaranteed promotion place.
The destination of the title is still to be settled and that could happen next Monday when the top two meet. Marsh United's 8-0 win over Dalton confirmed their promotion place with Hanging Heaton setting all kind of records with an 11th consecutive 8-0 winning scoreline this time over Thorpe Green B.
At the other end of the table nothing is settled yet as Paddock I&C and Primrose Hill Lib hang on to their Division 3 status for a little longer despite Paddock going down 0-8 to Lindley Lib B. The Lindley Lib team are still the only team to beat Marsh United this season but they will have to settle for more of the same next season as promotion is now out of their range. The same is true of Milnsbridge B who shared the points with Rastrick 4-4 this week but that wasn't sufficient to retain their involvement in the promotion battle any longer.
Congratulations to Thorpe Green C on a second successive promotion this time in a less dramatic manner than last year's final day cliff-hanger. Should they claim a minimum of 4 points from next week's match against Almondbury BC A then they will add the title to the one they won last season. They clinched their promotion from Division 4 after beating their main rivals New Mill B by 6-2 on Monday which at the same time threatened their opponents promotion chances although that matter is still within their own control. They don't have a match next week but by the time they step on the green for their last match of the season they will know exactly how many points they need to climb up the league in their first season in the competition.
A 2-6 defeat for Springwood B by Lindley Lib C confirmed their relegation and they could be swapping places with their club's C team who sit in the 2nd promotion place in Division 5 at present. Almondbury BC A will do well not to be dropping a level along with the Springwood team as they have to play the top two teams in their final two fixtures with both teams needing the points to clinch the title and promotion. Monday's 0-8 defeat to their nearest rivals, Kirkheaton C&BC, was a real disaster and most damaging to their survival hopes and they must now fear the worse.
A 4-4 draw between Lowerhouses B and Milnsbridge C suited both teams as it put some more daylight between the relegation candidates and themselves although both need to be aware of the threat of a 3rd, and possibly 4th, relegation places appearing in any shuffle to settle for 8 teams in each division for next season.
