Winter League
A preview of the fixtures scheduled for Divisions 1 & 2 on Wednesday 17 January
The top four teams in Division 1 play each other this Wednesday and there is also a key encounter at the foot of the table when Meltham take on Lowerhouses A. These two teams are currently 7th and 8th with only Golcar Lib below them so lots at stake.
Meltham have won 3 of their last 4 fixtures whilst Lowerhouses haven't won any of their last seven so the form book favours Meltham although Lowerhouses did beat them when the teams met in November.
It is 2nd v 3rd as Lower Hopton look to bounce back from last week's whitewash defeat when facing New Mill A. When the teams met earlier in the season it was Lower Hopton who ran out 8-0 winners but the teams are now level on points and just 4 points behind the leaders. Thorpe Green A will be looking to preserve and even stretch that lead when taking on Clayton West but they need to be aware that Clayton West have won four times by an 8-0 scoreline, more than any other team in the division.
The remaining fixture is Kirkheaton Con A versus Lindley BC A and with both teams in a good run of form, they may once again look to share the points as they did when they last met.
Cowcliffe A continue to set the pace in Division 2 and Lindley Lib A are not expected to threaten that 100% win record when the teams meet on Wednesday. The three teams behind the leaders are separated by three points and with 2nd placed Denby Dale having a bye week focus turns on Milnsbridge A and Lindley BC B who take on teams in the bottom three. The expectation being that both will win and both will overtake Denby Dale in the process unless there are any surprise results. Third-placed Milnsbridge A meet Lockwood Con A who have won their last two matches whilst 4th placed Lindley BC B face 2nd from bottom Brockholes A who have lost their last two fixtures.
The final fixture this week involves the League's yo-yo team, Huddersfield Recreation Club A who have been promoted or relegated every season the League has been in existence (and so have Lowerhouses A) and this year doesn't look like being anything different. This Wednesday they meet Springwood A who are 3 places and 4 points above them in the table so the potential for an upset is certainly there which could turn around the fortunes of the yo-yo team.
