Meltham shock win puts New Mill top

Winter League

Review of the Division 1 matches played on Wednesday 4 December

A surprise win for Meltham over Lower Hopton paved the way for New Mill to take over at the top of the Division 1 table for the first time this season. They recorded an 8-0 win over Lindley Lib A to go ahead of Thorpe Green A on a 10-chalk 'Aggregate For' advantage. Lower Hopton lost the top spot and slip to third and that means there are only 2 points separating the top three teams.

It was a day of Top 4 versus Bottom 4 and it was not only Meltham who were able to overcome higher-placed opposition. Cowcliffe also did and are emerging as a top half threat as well after their 6-2 win over Lindley BC A saw them swap places as the Lindley team lost 2-6 for third consecutive time. Thorpe Green remain a potent threat in defending their Division 1 title after a 6-2 win over Kirkheaton Con A who slip into the relegation places as a result.

The Division 1 teams fit in an extra round of matches next Monday playing the fixtures lost on 20 November to the heavy snowfall. That day New Mill A will play Lower Hopton in another key encounter whilst the bottom two teams also go up against each other.
