Winter League
It was good to see all the bowlers back on the green after the post-Christmas weather curtailed all the action. The Division 1 teams were one of four divisions playing on Monday and here are a few photos from on and around the green.
It was especially good to see Eddie Haigh back on the green for the first time for some while and he pushed Peter Fuller all the way but ended up trailing him to 19 and then he played again on Wednesday but again just missing out 18-21 to Mick Higgins. Managed to have a word with Eddie and take a photo of him enjoying a bacon sandwich and we had time to reminice over a time when we played each other a couple of time. I recalled the time he tried to 'old-man' me on an end but he claimed he was just trying to make me laugh.
I also reminded him of an incident in December 2020 at the same Milnsbridge green. It was the time just after Covid had caused the shutdown of the summer leagues but the Winter League got the go-ahead in the late summer. I took a photograph of Eddie and Barry Garside which looked like they were wrestling but it might have been a friendly hug but it certainly wasn't complying with the social distancing rules that were sacrosanct at that time. Eddie made me promise that I would never share that photo as it would create a problem for him back home. He now has a copy of that photo which he saw for the first time.
