Monday & Tuesday fixtures in the Winter League

Winter League

All the Monday & Tuesday action this week in the Winter League fixture programme.

MONDAY 28th

Division 4 at Primrose Hill Lib

Rastrick and Netherton Con A currently head the Division 4 table and both will be sorely tested this Monday when facing two other major contenders for the promotion places. Rastrick have to take on Slaithwaite who are one match behind the leaders but will pose a real threat to Rastrick's bright start to the season. Netherton Con A have also started the season very well but now have to take on third-placed Linthwaite Hall A.

Primrose Hill Lib and Milnsbridge B are locked together on 4 points and face each other today whilst Dalton will hope to get the bulk of the points when playing bottom-of-the-table Thorpe Green B.

TUESDAY 29th

Division 2 at Cowcliffe Lib

The Division 2 fixture programme starts this Tuesday and a new host green opens its doors for the first time as Cowcliffe look forward to a good season of Winter bowling on their green. This looks to me like the most competitive Division of all eight. Three of the teams (Lowerhouses A, Golcar Lib and Clayton West) have been relegated from Division 1 as part of the reorganisation programme to bring divisions down from 9 teams to 8 in each division. Couple those with the two teams that ran away with the Division 3 honours last season, Hanging Heaton A and Marsh United, and then add the two teams that finished last season in Division 2 in 3rd place (Milnsbridge A) and 5th (Lindley BC B). That is a rich measure of bowling prowess and experience so I am looking forward to seeing which two teams rise to claim the promise of Division 1 bowling next season.

*** It is timely to remind all bowlers that all matches start at 11.00am this year.***

TUESDAY 29th

Division 8 at Lockwood Con Golcar C&BC are in their 3rd season in the Winter League and although this all ladies' team always enjoy their days out in the Winter League they haven't actually won anything at all yet. They have always played in the bottom division. They have still to finish in the top half of an end-of-season table. Yet this year it is starting to feel different. They won their last fixture by 8-0 and they have only done that once before and that wass over 2 years ago (v Almondbury BC 10 November 2022). This week they play Holmfirth who haven't won a match yet. The dream is still very much alive.
