Monday & Tuesday fixtures previewed

Winter League

Monday 4 November Division 4

There is only the one rearranged Division 4 fixture this week with key hosting personnel away on holiday so no hospitality is available but Slaithwaite and Thorpe Green C will catch up with their earlier postponed match due to a funeral clash. The teams lanquish in 6th and 7th positions at present but with that match in hand that could all change with the shortfall translated into points. In fact Slaithwaite will go top if they win this match, so plenty at stake.

Tuesday 5 November

Division 2

Cowcliffe host their second round of Tuesday fixtures this week with this endorsement from one of the team captains involved last week.

I would like on behalf of Milnsbridge BC to congratulate the Cowcliffe club members on a successful start as a Winter League host green. The ladies did a really good catering selection of quality food and drinks at reasonable prices. The organisation was good and even the weather helped the day go well. We are all looking forward to the matches to come and hope all teams involved have an enjoyable season of Winter bowling.

Regards Jim Baxter Milnsbridge B C  A team.

This is a very competitive division this season - the 'Division of Death' - with many contenders for the two promotion places. Marsh United and Golcar Lib can count themselves among those expecting to be involved in the promotion race this season. The two teams meet up this Tuesday whilst occupying 2nd and 3rd positions so every point is vital. Hanging Heaton A will be aiming to build on their great start to the season when taking on another Lindley team this week. This time it is the Lindley BC B side who have to face Hanging Heaton and that is beginning to look like a big task.

Lowerhouses A finished bottom of the Division 1 table last season but have opened their 2024-25 campaign determined to erase that memory by quickly returning to the top level. Lindley Lib B benefitted from the end-of-season reorganisation of the divisions by gaining promotion after finishing 3rd in Division 3 and now need to show that bthey deserved that uplift. Clayton West will be keen to address an opening day blip when losing to Lowerhouses by claiming a first win when they meet Milnsbridge A this Tuesday.

Tuesday 5 November

Division 8

Lockwood Con received plenty of plaudits from Division 8 teams after their hosting start to the season as have Golcar C&BC who continue to set the pace at the top of the table. They probably face their stiffest test so far when taking on the unbeaten Mirfield B side. The Mirfield team have upped their game after finishing bottom of the bottom division last season and are enjoying a good start to their second season in the League. This match is likely to be a big test for both teams.

Lockwood Con C sit between these two contenders and could be the main beneficiary of any result between the other top teams but need to dispatch a Holmfirth team looking for their first win of the season to take full advantage. Cowcliffe C need to bounce back from their defeat to the Mirfield side last week. They take on a Broad Oak B team buoyed by their first win last week. Linthwaite Hall B will be pleased to not be playing a leading team this week and the chance to pick up points to move up the table when they play bottom-of-the-table Kirkheaton C&BC B who themselves have played the leading two teams already and will relish the opportunity to have a better chance of picking up their first win.
