New BCGBA Safeguarding Posters

Bowling News

The BCGBA are supporting club's Safeguarding Officers with some new publicity and awareness posters. The intention is to circulate one poster to every bowls club in the country via their County representative on the BCGBA National Council. Have you got yours yet? This is how it has been publicised so far from the BCGBA Facebook pages.

I'm delighted to announce that 2500 A2 posters have been printed in readiness to distribute to every BCGBA bowls club in the coming weeks and months. Sponsored by the team at Bowls Buddies and endorsed by the BCGBA Board, these posters were the idea of Derbyshire county player, Steve Barber, and Derbyshire chair, Michelle Conway. The first completed design of the poster was presented to them at last months County game Derbyshire v Cumbria at Lindal BC in Cumbria.

Steve & Michelle's concept came from a tragic case of a crown green bowlers suicide in their county, and their wish to try and prevent a similar case. We need to try and keep everyone in our game safe. The poster gives details of help groups and a direct link to all their websites at the scan of a QR code.

These help groups include Suicide Prevention UK, Mental Health Support - Mind, Dementia UK, the Trussell Trust - Food Bank Support, the Ann Craft Trust, Narcotics Anonymous, Find a Helpline, Citizens Advice, MacMillan Cancer Support, Problem Gambling Support, Women's Health Support, Domestic Violence Support - Refuge, the NSPCC, Alcoholics Anonymous, Mental Health Support - Shout and finally the one that every bowler needs every now and again, the Samaritans !!!

If this poster saves just one bowler, because they ask for the help that is readily available, rather than thinking they're alone with their battle, it's a BCGBA project that's been a success.

The plan is to distribute these via your county's National Council representative at the BCGBA meeting on Saturday 20th July. More details on distribution will appear later in the month.

Get a poster, put it up, give support to your bowlers, you don't know, they might need it.
