After a few months of uncertainty about their future Greenhead Park Bowling Club have moved positively to secure an agreement to play at Thorpe Green for the 2025 Veterans League season. They only have teams in the Veterans League with one 10-man and two 6-man teams playing on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. It is a good fit for both clubs as Thorpe Green only have one Veterans 10-Man League team, as do Greenhead Park, and don't have a 6-Man League team at all so allowing the two Greenhead Park 6-man teams full access on those dates. Having 16 new club members sits well with Thorpe Green as well.
The club met with Kirklees Council on 21 January as part of a series of consultation meetings arranged with park resident clubs across the Kirklees area. Despite their best efforts in trying to get updates from Kirklees Council following the consultation period there had been no response before the club decided to move base. This was taken against continuing speculation about the Council's lack of commitment to supporting bowling clubs at all.
The club was keen to secure a long term commitment that has never been offered by Kirkless Council as the club approaches it's 98th season of bowling. It would have preferred to continue playing on their home green since 1827 but have decided that they cannot wait any longer to finalise arrangements for the 2025 summer bowling season as well as securing their longer term future. An appeal through this website to clubs who could offer the Greenhead Park team a new home resulted in responses from five clubs. Discussions held with all of them led to Thorpe Green being selected as the best fit and that arrangement suits bothl parties.
