Bowling News
Mike Ralph and I had a conversation about two weeks ago about the present situation with the former Newsome BC site. Two weeks later we both reported that we had visited the site on consecutive days and taken photographs of what we found. Four of these photos are below showing the current decaying and derelict site of what once was a thriving and flourishing bowling green playing host to a range of local finals and county matches as documented in this press cutting.
Now look at it. Why did the owner ever think he could make money out of what he now has created for himself? A monster of untended land, a complete eyesore that the neighbours must complain about.
We know there were once plans drawn up to provide housing on the site but that has never materialised. Word is that the access route alongside The Fountain pub isn't wide enough for a road to open up the way in and out of the aborted development. That had been well thought through hadn't it?
It is now 9 years since November 2015 when club members broke into the fenced-off green to make their protests known as reported by the BBC at that time.
The first three photos below show the former green as taken from The Fountain access side. These photos show the new wood fence and gateway in front of the Newsome WMC with the fourth photo taken from behind the WMC.
