Winter League A review of the Division 2 fixtures played at Cowcliffe on Tuesday 17 December
There may have been many Christmas jumpers on and around the green on Tuesday but there wasn't a lot of goodwill as there were four 8-0 whitewash scorelines in the last set of Division 2 fixtures before Christmas. But when competition is keen and promotion matters abound none of the top teams can afford to be points generous at this time of the season.
That is especially true at the very top of the table as Hanging Heaton A and Golcar Lib continue to be locked level on the same points total and both remain unbeaten. Lindley Lib B and Milnsbridge A respectively were on the wrong end of those scorelines against the top two as was Lindley BC B who lost out to 3rd-placed Marsh United.
The one result that didn't go with the table positions was when Clayton West swapped places with Lowerhouses A. They started the day 6 points behind the Lowerhouses team but an 8-0 win saw the West move above them and into the top half of the table avenging an opening-day defeat against the same opponents.
So the Christmas cheer was reserved for the after-match Christmas Party when the destination of the points was completed for 2024 and bowlers could truly enter into the Christmas spirit.
