Winter League
The 2024-25 Winter League season is up and running after two divisions played their first matches of the season.
.
Division 3 Thorpe Green C and New Mill B came up to Division 3 after finishing 1st and 2nd in Division 4 last season and this rerun of fixtures from last season saw the New Mill side come out on top by 6-2. Promoted along with them was Lowerhouses B and despite late team raising difficulties they eventually managed to field a full team and were rewarded with a 6-2 opening day win over Huddersfield Recreation Club A.
Springwood A used green knowledge to their advantage when completing a 6-2 win over Brockholes A. Denby Dale and Lockwood Con A played each other twice last season and the Lockwood side lost both matches 2-6 so it was no surprise that Denby Dale continued the dominance over their rivals but with a more emphatic 8-0 scoreline this time.
Division 7 It was not a good day for Lockwood Con teams as their B team followed the A team's result with an identical 0-8 outcome. That wasn't the only whitewash score in this Division as Kirkheaton Con B clocked up their first ever 8-0 winning score on the first day of their second Winter League season.
Meltham B and Hanging Heaton B were making their Winter League debuts and both will be pleased with the four points they collected from this drawn match. The game count went 2-1 to the Meltham team but a 56-50 aggregate total in Hanging Heaton's favour saw them share the points. Marsh Lib are the third new team in Division 7 but they have to wait for a first win after going down to Cowcliffe 2-6 which was no disgrace after Cowcliffe's third place finish last season.
Once again all the results were quickly added to our Bowlsnet pages so thanks to all the teams for doing that. Just reminder that the other team has to check the players and scores before verifying the result. As of Saturday night only 2 of those 8 fixtures have been verified.
