Veterans League
I am delighted to see that the Veterans League have changed the format of Finals Day in their Over-70's Pairs Knock-Out competition.
I reported on the problem created by cramming all the matches into a single day but the situation was even worse than I reported then. With 24 entries it meant that some bowlers could be playing 5 pairs matches in a single day which is absolutely ludicrous. That would be a real challenge for any man but with all the entrants all being over 70 years of age it appeared to be a disaster waiting to happen.
They have now changed the format to spread the competition over two days. Two rounds being played on Friday 30 August which was the original date for Finals Day. The green for the 30 August matches has still to be confirmed.
Finals Day has now been put back until Thursday 12 September when the quarter-finals, semi-finals and Final are all scheduled to be played at Lowerhouses. I don't believe that playing three pairs matches in a day is ideal for old men and would welcome bowlers being canvassed for their views in future.
