Over-70s Pairs title goes to Meltham

Veterans League

The 2nd holding of the Over-70's Pairs KO saw the trophy go to the new Meltham pairing of Paul Rangeley and Barry Gibson. Sponsored and invented by Brockholes member David Hallas the competition was interrupted by heavy rain and a thunderstorm but that didn't prevent the Rangeley/Gibson pairing from appearing in their second pairs final of the season having gone down 13-21 to Tim Poulter & Edwin Haigh at the final stage of the Veterans League Pairs KO at Almondbury Lib in July they were in no mood for a repeat.

The Lockwood Con pair of Mick Cox & Peter Kain sit first and third in the Division 1 Singles averages with the Meltham pair not featuring in the top 10 but pairs is a very different game as proved in this competition. An epic final with the ultimate 21-20 scoreline emphasising the high level of bowling under difficult and changing conditions.

The winning pair was only formed this season after Paul joined the Meltham club and replaced Barry's long-time pairs partner Roy Sutton who had moved on to play for Slaithwaite. This win would be especially sweet for Barry having lost in the final with his previous partner when the competition was first introduced in 2019. Congratulations to the winning pair.
