Winter League
The Round of the Last 16 in the new Pairs KO competition was completed on Friday. There was one withdrawal as the Cowcliffe pairing was unable to field a team so giving the Kirkheaton Con pair of Butterfield and Senior a bye through to Finals Day. A surprisingly large crowd of spectators, supporters and fellow team members congregated around the green with ample hot drinks (including Bovril of course) and food on tap.
There was one surprise result as the David Bradbury & Martin Eccles pair from Division 8 team's Linthwaite Hall B beat the Division 4 Champions Slaithwaite representative pair of Chris Sykes & Bob Slatford 21-14 and their reward is a tie against another Slaithwaite pair of Tom Chatfield & Keith Hanley on Finals Day next Friday.
One more result worthy of note was Division 6 qualifiers, Mick Addy & Michael Wood (Mirfield A) who pushed Division 2 promoted team Golcar Lib all the way before going down 17-21. All the results are below and the eight pairings that have progressed to Finals Day will meet up at Thorpe Green next Friday for the climax of the competition. Bowlers are reminded that they will need to comply with the BCGBA dress code which basically, at this time of year, means that black trousers are mandatory. The requirement to wear collared shirts will probably be lost under the layers of jumpers, scarves and coats likely to be worn for any February bowling.
