Winter League
The intent is to finish the season by the end of January to allow the greenkeepers to undertake any pre-summer season maintenance work on those greens and hand them back unaffected by Winter League obligations.
Every Tuesday, except Christmas week, is now booked out for League fixtures until the end of January. We have already had to use some Thursdays to catch up on fixtures postponed because of Lockdown2. One more set of Thursday fixtures are lined up for 7 January and then we will have caught up with the backlog.
Once the regular league season has been completed we will be arranging some play-off matches. The play-off matches will be between the teams filling the same final position in both Divisions. So the top two play each other, the two second-placed teams go head-to-head etc. Each pairing will play 'home and away' with an aggregate total determining the victors.
The winner of the top 2 play-off deciding the destination of the first-ever Winter League Championship with the Founders Cup awaiting the winners. The remaining play-off matches will aid the split of teams for the 2021-22 season as we look to put teams in two divisions (or more) based on playing records.
So still lots to play for and we hope for an exciting climax to our first season. Regardless of all that we hope to continue providing friendly but competitive bowling for those starved of their sport for so long this terrible year. We have all been robbed but that is no reason to mourn but all the more reason to be involved, enjoy and play the sport in the manner intended.
He play offs will bring a bit more interest and competitiveness to the end of the season
