Winter League
T'is the season of goodwill and I'm on the scrounge!
We currently have a shortfall of two trophies to complete the table-full we need to satisfy the demands of an ever-increasing number of bowlers and teams. The generosity of individuals and clubs has matched the continuing rapid growth of the Winter League.
This season we have a new Pairs KO competition and Elland WMC have stepped up to the mark and sponsored a new trophy to be awarded to the first-ever winner. Then with two more Divisions this season we need trophies for two Division winners and two Top Bowlers. Peter Swinden and family have done the decent thing by donating two more trophies to mark two further additions to the family. Thanks Peter.
That still leaves two more trophies needed for the end of the season. Both will be perpetual trophies awarded on an annual basis for Division winners and Top Bowlers, again by Division. Likely costs are between £85 - £115.
We cannot expect Peter's daughters to continue to reproduce at this rate forever so we invite anyone who could be interested in sponsoring a trophy to learn more about it and register that interest with us. Any individual, club or business that may be interested in taking that further should get in touch to learn more about such opportunities. Please contact me to learn more.
It doesn't stop there as we fully expect to grow again for next season with a new 8-team Division 9 most likely so yet more opportunities for clubs, businesses and individuals to commemorate club heroes or mark special events and occasions. It is a unique way of honouring past achievements.
The same applies to any team interested in joining the League for the 2025-26 season. They can register that interest through the same means. An early indication of any such potential new teams helps us ensure the infrastructure matches the requirements. We already have two expressions of interest and we expect to make that up to 8 new teams and a new Division 9 for next season.
Last season's trophy listing is below. Some shuffling of the trophies around is inevitable to meet the requirements of the sponsoring individuals and organisations.
The Founders Fund sponsored four of our Year 1 trophies after an appeal for donations among founder teams resulted in a £500 fund being created to satisfy that initial need.
The Top Bowler award goes to the bowler in each Division with the most wins (Singles & Pairs combined) over the season. In the event of more than one bowler having the same number of most wins then the bowler with the higher 'Aggregate Difference' score shall prevail.
Not forgetting The Winter Cup which is a perpetual trophy awarded annually to the winner of our individual knock-out competition that we run each year. Kirkheaton Con bowlers Gary Senior and Tony Butterfield sponsored this impressive trophy.
