Winter League
Two matches in a week for most teams this Tuesday and Thursday so a double preview article as part of the build-up. The real focus will be on the Thursday fixtures when the top two in each division go head-to-head. Clayton West v Rastrick in the Springwood Division and then Lowerhouses 'A' v Milnsbridge 'A' will bring the best bowlers in our two divisions together. How key those matches will be in determining the end-of-season honours remains to be seen but before then we have a full fixture Tuesday programme on both greens.
Springwood Division
Because of the fixture shake-up created by the Lockdown2 postponed matches this week's programme is a re-run of matches played in mid-October. It was on that day that Clayton West inflicted the only defeat so far on Denby Dale and they still sit handily in third place as they meet up once again in the Southern Derby match. Rastrick have to take on fourth-placed Kirkheaton Con who will be looking to swap places with their opponents with just a two-point gap between the teams at present. Huddersfield Recreation Club 'A' will be looking to claim their first win of the season when meeting the host club who sit one point ahead of them at present.
On Thursday beside the top of the table clash, third and fourth also confront each other with Denby Dale having a single point advantage over Kirkheaton Con as they square up. The Springwood hosts will ensure their warm welcome and hospitality doesn't extend to the green as they meet bottom of the table Lowerhouses 'B'.
Milnsbridge Division
The Milnsbridge 'B' side play their first match on Tuesday since taking over the withdrawing Huddersfield Recreation Club 'B' fixtures and they could do their 'A' side a big favour by taking points off Lowerhouses 'A'. A most formidable task as Lowerhouses 'A' are looking to claim first place for themselves although currently sharing that lofty position with Milnsbrdige 'A'. The hosts have to see off Lindley BC who have won 3 of their 4 matches to date but sit in fourth place at present so no straightforward task. Fifth and sixth meet up when Dalton take on Meltham who are surprisingly one-off the bottom at present and the reward of a win would see them move up at least one place.
On Thursday leaders Milnsbridge 'A' go head-to-head with second-placed Lowerhouses 'A' with Dalton and Meltham facing up to each other. Then Lindley BC complete a week of matches against Milnsbridge teams when confronting the 'B' side to complete the programme.
