Promotion & relegation matters to sort out

Veterans League

Preview of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 1&2 fixtures for Tuesday 24 September

The top and bottom places in Divisions 1 & 2 are all taken with Lowerhouses and Netherton Con A reserving those places in the top division. That leaves the runners-up spot and the second relegation place to be finalised.

Longwood are the clear favourites for the runners-up spot unless Cowcliffe can damage their chances this Tuesday. Marsh United A will still need to bounce back from their 0-9 loss at Golcar Lib from last week if they are to take any advantage of the Longwood team slipping up. It is Longwood's position to lose at present.

At the foot of the table it looks like the two teams that came up from Division 2 are both returning to those happier hunting greens as Lindley BC A have to go to the new Division 1 Champions, Lowerhouses, this week which could seal their fate. With Netherton Con A already relegated it leaves the Lindley team hoping to take enough points to take the the decision through to the final day of the season when they host third from bottom Rastrick.

In Division 2 Meltham are the runaway Champions which leaves Lindley Lib A and Elland C&BC competing for the second promotion place. Both have away fixtures this week with Elland C&BC's final two matches against bottom-four teams. Can the Lindley team protect their six-points lead or will they be pegged back?

The second relegation place will be for one of the three teams above already relegated Almondbury Lib. One point separates those three teams with Linthwaite Hall currently residing in that drop slot. With the worse 'Aggregate For' total and facing the runaway leaders this week, the odds are on Linthwaite Hall joining Almondbury Lib in Division 3 next season.
