R.I.P. Christine Kaye

Rest in Peace

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Christine Elizabeth Kaye, aged 75 years. On the 2nd of May after a long battle whilst in the safe care of the Oak Park Care Home at Dewsbury, formerly of Mirfield.

Christine was a much-loved bowling legend in Huddersfield and Kirklees. Together with her sister Eileen (who now lives on the South Coast) and her late husband John they created formidable pairings, winning many tournaments. Notably winning the Waterloo Mixed Pairs KO three times in 7 years the last one being in 1992 when they collected a £400 first prize.

Christine also represented Huddersfield and Yorkshire on many occasions as well as being a most accomplished singles player winning the Huddersfield Ladies Merit in 1983 which gave her passage through to the final of the All-England Ladies Merit after coming out best at the preliminaries at Lindley Liberal Club. Christine beat Outlane bowler Lynne Brook in the final of the qualifier and she had also got through to the middle stages of the Waterloo Ladies £3,000 Handicap to be played at the Waterloo BC at Blackpool and so did her sister Eileen Wooltorton who also plays at Cowcliffe Liberal. Both sisters were members of the all-conquering Cowcliffe Lib ladies team in the late 1980’s and 1990's.

Christine also played and promoted tournaments at Ravensthorpe WMC, as well as being instrumental in the very popular Ladies Winter Bowling competitions held at the then ICI.

Those who knew Christine will remember a truly lovely, and funny human being who will be very sadly missed. We send our heartfelt condolences to all her family. A service by invitation will be held at St Andrews Methodist Church, Mirfield, on the 27th May 2021 at 10.30am.
