Rare event in Thorpe Green's Division 1 game

Winter League

Review of the Division 1 fixtures played on Wednesday 18 December at Milnsbridge BC

Thorpe Green opened a gap over the chasing teams this week after an 8-0 whitewash win over New Mill A. The Thorpe Green team played well but the New Mill side have gone off the boil recently with this 3rd successive defeat as they slip down the table. It is the Lower Hopton team that remains the most potent threat to the leaders but they dropped points this week when being held to a 4-4 draw by the improving Cowcliffe A side.

The Lindley derby match produced a whitewash win for the Bowling Club over their neighbours and that left the Lindley Lib A side well adrift at the foot of the table and 14 points away from a safety target. Kirkheaton Con A and Meltham A are the two teams immediately above them in the table and those two teams faced up to each other on Wednesday. It ended in a 6-2 win for the Kirkheaton side with the aggregate bonus points secure after the first two games which is as well really as a 2-21 defeat in the final game threatened the outcome of that.

The wet weather wasn't really conducive to good photography but I did have to record the very rare event of Thorpe Green A bowler Briggsy playing in the pairs game. The only other time I can find that happening was on 4 January 2023 against the same New Mill A opponents.
