Relegation picture muddied by away wins

Veterans League

Review of the Veterans 6-Man League results of matches played on Monday 22 July

Things are starting to change at the foot of the Division 1 table as teams become more aware of the threat of relegation becoming more of a reality for some. Bottom team Lockwood Con won for a 2nd consecutive week when claiming a first away win of the season at fellow strugglers Paddock I&C by 5-2. That reduced the gap between the bottom two to just 4 points. Meanwhile Crosland Moor crashed to a 1-6 home defeat to Slaithwaite and ended a three-match winning run and reverse back into the relegation zone. A 2-5 away defeat at leaders Marsh United A for Brockholes A ensured that the Badgers remain in range of the relegation threatened teams.

Milnsbridge A completed a League double over Waterloo when winning the home leg on Monday by 6-1 which also saw Waterloo drop a place to third after being overtaken by Shepley A who had a 5-2 home win over Golcar C&BC. Netherton Con seem to be in freefall at present with a 4th consecutive defeat and a first 0-7 whitewash loss of the season at Thongsbridge A.

Clayton West made it 16 wins on the bounce with a 5-2 Division 2 home success over an unpredictable Greenhead Park A side but haven't shaken off Bradley & Colne who won by the same scoreline at home against Longwood. A surpise defeat for Marsh Lib A when going down 3-4 at Elland C&BC who were winning for only the 2nd time this season but that was enough to dislodge the Marsh side from 2nd place.

Milnsbridge B drop into the 2nd relegation place after losing 1-6 away at Holmfirth A which was an 8th consecutive loss. They are passed by Hemplow who had a good 6-1 home win over Linthwaite Hall as both teams remain in the drop zone.

Almondbury Lib and Greenhead Park A are on the fringes of that relegation fight and defeats for them both this week ensured that there is still lots for both teams to do to protect their Division 2 status.

A second Division 3 defeat of the season for Denby Dale, this time by 3-4 at Skel Windmill B, damaged their title hopes but they remain on course for promotion but are now 10 points behind Brockholes B who had a regulation 5-2 home win over Primrose Hill Lib and a 6th successive victory. Holmfirth B passed game-less Thongsbridge B to go 3rd with a 4-3 away win at Meltham who were losing for the first time in six matches.

Shepley B were only beaten by the aggregate winning points against Marsh Lib B eventually going down 3-4 whilst Greenhead Park B climbed three places to 7th position after a 5-2 home success over Marsh United B.
