Winter League
Two sunny days this week and Winter League bowling on both with a day of rain in-between. We couldn't have planned it any better. Three matches yesterday in the Springwood Division and they all resulted in a 6-0 scoreline. Three matches in the Milnsbridge Division and none of them resulted in a 6-0 scoreline but these were the ones that provide today's headlines.
Milnsbridge Division
Leaders Lowerhouses 'A' are having 'a bit of a wobble' and they lost for the second consecutive time when going down 1-5 to Lindley BC. After going the first six games undefeated they have now lost twice in three days but hang on to top spot for now. The two teams meet again the first Tuesday in January which could be a key outcome in determining the title contenders. Milnsbridge 'A' had the day off yesterday but were interested spectators as the outcome placed them just four points behind the hesitant leaders and the two top teams are scheduled to meet each other on the final day of the league season. Yesterday's results also signalled Lindley BC's interest in the top spot although in third position they have a game in hand on the top two and are just 6 points behind the leaders. Interesting days ahead.
Meanwhile the rejuvenated Milnsbridge 'B' side continue to punch above their weight and after losing last week's aggregate by one point they performed admirably again but this time going down 2-4 with a 70-72 aggregate reversal. Their day will clearly come. Dalton
made it two wins on the bounce with a 4-2 win over Thorpe Green which was not a good rehearsal for their meeting with the leaders next Tuesday.
Springwood Division
Three 6-0 scorelines at Springwood with two of those results not unexpected with the top two meeting the bottom two teams. Clayton West recovered from their first defeat of the season last week to overwhelm Lowerhouses 'B' whilst Kirkheaton Cons defeated the Recreation Club 'A' team with the whitewash scoreline. The third match in this division saw Rastrick end a run of three straight defeats when beating and overtaking Denby Dale.
Just to advise teams in the Springwood Division that on the final matchday of 2020 (next Tuesday) a selection of sandwiches will be available to purchase which may well include a seasonal turkey and cranberry sauce in bread cakes for a £1 each. All individually wrapped to keep you safe.
