DIVISION 3&4 FIXTURES FOR MONDAY 5 FEBRUARY
It is possible that Hanging Heaton could confirm their promotion from Division 3 on Monday depending on how Milnsbridge go on with their match against Lindley Lib B. A big win for the leader and anything less than an 8-0 victory for the Milnsbridge side could see the new boys claim their promotion with another three matches still to be played. Marsh United have a bye week so will have to wait a little longer before the opportunity presents itself again.
Big wins for the top two in last Thursday's rearranged fixture programme saw them tighten their hold on that step up. Marsh United saw off the challenge of Milnsbridge which benefitted the top two as Hanging Heaton made it nine 8-0 wins on the bounce when overwhelming bottom-of-the-table Paddock I&C.
Rastrick were involved in their first 4-4 draw of the season when sharing the points with Lindley Lib B and a 6-2 win for Thorpe Green B completed Thursday's rearranged programme.
This Monday the bottom two go up against each other as Paddock I&C and Primrose Hill Lib have a last throw of the dice to make a statement about their survival. Whatever the outcome of that result and any others the pair will still occupy the two relegation places come Monday tea-time. Thorpe Green B and Rastrick are within 2 points of each other but both appear safe so only pride at stake this time around with Rastrick hoping to repeat their 6-2 success of their last meeting.
It increasingly looks like the Division 4 season is drawing to a two-team climax to the season although Lindley Lib C would probably disagree with me on that. They remain 14 points behind 2nd placed Thorpe Green C and have lost their last two matches which have been against the top two so may have missed their best chance to ruffle the feathers of the leading duo.
Third-placed Netherton Con A could argue that they have a chance of going up as well but are 12 points behind 2nd place on the same number of matches played so this week's fixture against that 2nd placed team, Thorpe Green C, is key to any future involvement they may have in the promotion race. New Mill B are in the top spot and with a fixture against struggling Kirkheaton C&BC would expect to cement that continuing situation.
Lowerhouses B have only lost one of their last 8 matches and are still threatened with relegation and that threat will increase this week if they don't repel the advancement of the Almondbury BC A side. The meeting of the C teams from Milnsbridge and Lindley Lib presents a final opportunity for the Lindley side to register any intent as to continuing involvement in the upper reaches of the table and anything other than a really big win will surely signal the end of any such aspirations.
