Review of the 10-Man League Divisions 3, 4 & 5 matches played on Tuesday 16 July
A seven-match Division 3 winning run for Elland WMC came to an end at Holmfirth on Tuesday in a surprising 2-7 defeat. With the leaders, Denby Dale, clocking up a regulation 7-2 home win over Paddock I&C means at last there is some daylight emerging between the two top teams in advance of their meeting each other in their next league matches. That also brings Brockholes A back into the promotion picture after they also won by a 7-2 scoreline when seeing off Outlane at home.
Five of the 6 Tuesday fixtures in Division 3 finished with a 7-2 scoreline with Slaithwaite's 8-1 away success over Skel Windmill breaking the sequence. That left the Skel side level bottom with Thorpe Green after their defeat at Lindley Lib B. Springwood still feature in the drop zone after a 2-7 home defeat by Hemplow A lifted them out of immediate danger.
Lockwood Con B blew their chances of getting involved in the promotion battle at the top of Division 4 when losing 2-7 at home to rivals Marsh United B. That kept the Marsh team in 2nd position but with Milnsbridge B having an 8-1 home win over Marsh Lib means no change at the top. In fact there has been no changes in the running order of the top six teams as Kirkheaton C&BC B beat Brockholes B 7-2 to retain their grip on 3rd place.
Home wins for the bottom two teams improved their chances of moving out of the drop zone but Lindley BC B have a lot to do to see that happen as a 5-4 second win of the season gives them some hope but they remain 22 points adrift of safety.
That win over Ravensknowle Park was only their second win of the season but with Meltham B also winning 5-4 at home to Huddersfield Recreation Club thanks to 129-129 drawn aggregate totals means the gap doesn't lessen at all. The Rugby Club's 7-2 home success ended a four-match winning run for Thongsbridge B and keeps them out of the relegation picture for now.
The top two teams in Division 5 both recorded 8-1 home wins to ensure no change at the top of the table and David Brown Sports maintained their one-point lead over Netherton Con B. Those big wins were over the bottom two teams so ensuring no change at the bottom either. New Mill B were the only bottom five team to win when seeing off fellow strugglers Holmfirth B by 7-2.
A good 8-1 away win for Broad Oak B, their 4th win in their last 5 fixtures, moved them into the top half of the table passing their Tuesday opponents Hemplow B in the process. Dalton had a good 7-2 away win over Greenhead Park to hang on to the coat-tails of the top two but Kirkheaton Con B drop off the pace in 4th place after a 5-4 home win over Primrose Hill Lib.
