Slawit slaughter Jackson Bridge 8-0

Winter League

Review of the Divisions 5 & 6matches played on Thursday 11 January 2024

Slaithwaite and Jackson Bridge occupied the two places behind the Division 5 leaders Brockholes B before Thursday's fixtures. After those matches the two teams were placed 1st and 5th after Slaithwaite had produced a whitewash 8-0 victory to go clear at the top aided by the Brockholes B team going down 0-8 to Springwood C.

The win for Slaithwaite made it three wins on the bounce for them which has given them a four-points lead at the top having played one less match than the next three teams in the table. That clash ended a seven match unbeaten run for Jackson Bridge who have a match in hand over the three teams above them in the table.

Brockholes B's hold on topspot only lasted one week so that big loss was a major setback to their own promotion aspirations. Interestingly the top five teams all find themselves with the same Won-6 Lost-3 records with 8 points separating the top five.

That group of five includes Outlane who take second place after a 6-2 win over bottom of the table Netherton Con B making it 4 wins from their last 6 matches. There was a third 8-0 scoreline on the day as Mirfield A clocked up a whitewash win over Huddersfield Recreation Club with the two teams starting the day level on points. That puts some daylight between the two teams and the Recreation Club closer than ever to a second successive relegation.

The top versus bottom clash in Division 6 saw the table-toppers, Linthwaite Hall, continue their pursuit of the title with a 6-2 win over Mirfield B and they have now extended their lead to 16-points as their nearest rival New Mill C were without a game but hold on to second place. That being mainly due to Huddersfield RUFC failing to collect any points from their meeting with Cowcliffe B who made it 4 wins on the trot and a second consecutive 8-0 scoreline to push themselves into third place and very much in the promotion picture.

Broad Oak and Golcar C&BC kept their heads above the relegation places with good wins with Broad Oak inflicting a third consecutive defeat on Lockwood Con by 6-2 whilst the Golcar side saw off Kirkheaton Con B by 6-2. The gap to safety for the bottom two being extended from 6 to 10 points after this latest round of results.

It was not only the bowlers that were winners on Thursday as the Rugby Club spectators could enjoy another soup dish added to the menu this week with home-made variations of Pea, Spicey Parsnip and Chicken & Vegetables recently appearing on the menus alongside the ever dependable hot sausage rolls.
