Veterans League
A preview of the fixtures in Divisions 3, 4 & 5 on Tuesday 2 July
Looking at the tables it appears that we are heading towards the top two positions being contested by 3 teams in each of the three lower 10-Man League divisions. None more so than in Division 3 where the top three have already created a 13-point cushion between themselves and their nearest rivals. Despite the fact that Denby Dale have the superior win record they are level on 60 points with Elland WMC who have a better 'Aggregate For' total (1215-1188) which puts them above their main challenger for the title.
The top three all have away matches this Tuesday with Elland WMC at bottom-of-the-table Thorpe Green, Denby Dale at 5th-placed Outlane and Brockholes A away at 8th-placed Slaithwaite, Clearly the leaders have the easier looking match and maybe they won't need the better 'Aggregate For' total to secure top spot after this week's fixtures.
Four points between the top three teams in Division 4 although Marsh United B in 4th place and only 8 points off a promotion place will maintain that it is at least a four-way contest. table Things may become clearer after this week's matches where the leaders, Lockwood Con B, have to go to play third-placed Milnsbridge B whilst 2nd-placed Kirkheaton C&BC A have to go to Huddersfield Recreation Club who have won 4 of their 5 home matches this season. With Marsh United B at home to lowly Meltham B they could gatecrash the promotion party.
The leading pair in Division 5 both play bottom half teams this week and could widen the gap there currently is to the promotion hopefuls of Dalton and Kirkheaton Con B. Second-placed David Brown Sports inflicted the first defeat of the season on the leaders Netherton Con on the last League fixture date and they are now well within range of unsettling the leaders. However as the leaders have a home match this week and DB Sports have to go to Kirkheaton C&BC B who haven't lost at home since the first day of the season, positions in the table are less likely to change this week.
