Veterans League Preview of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 1 & 2 fixtures for Tuesday 23 April
Marsh United A lead the Division 1 table and have to go to play Lowerhouses this Tuesday. Lowerhouses have been busy recruiting additions to the squad during the winter break which includes the former All-England Champion Ashley Daykin. If the Marsh team can avoid a repeat of their mid-season dip of last year that saw them lose 6 matches on the bounce then they are going to be serious title contenders. A double over Lowerhouses last year, and over Champions Golcar Lib A as well, shows the potential.
Lockwood Con may not be the force they have been over the last decade but they are unlikely to disappear from the upper regions of the table anytime soon. This week they take on a Waterloo side that finished one place above them in third last year. They will also be looking to avenge the League double suffered at their hands last season.
Reigning Champions Golcar Lib A travel to Kirkheaton Con A on Tuesday and with both teams only having played one match their league positions are skewed for the moment.
The same applies to Cowcliffe who go to play Lindley BC A who have opened the season brightly and will be pleased with their 11 points from their opening two fixtures. Not the same for Netherton Con who came up from Division 2 along with Lindley BC A and have lost both of their opening fixtures and will be keen to get a win on the board when Rastrick come calling this week. Clayton West v Longwood is the other Tuesday fixture and with both having won one and lost one so far the home advantage may prove crucial this time around.
The three teams relegated into Division 2 for this season have really set their stall out to manage immediate returns to the top level and currently occupy the top three positions in the table. All three have home matches this week so will expect to maintain those positions for the present. Meltham have collected 17 points out of 18 to date and entertain an Almondbury BC A who didn't travel well for their only away match which was at Elland C&BC. The Elland side will be looking to extend that good home form when they host newly promoted Almondbury Lib this week.
The third team of that leading trio is Milnsbridge A who have Shepley as visitors who have made a disappointing start to the season losing both matches to date and nothing like the form of last year which took them within one place of promotion. New Mill A have made a good start to the season winning both of their fixtures and have home advantage on Tuesday over Broad Oak A who haven't made a good start losing both of their matches so far.
Promoted Golcar Lib B will be looking for a repeat of last week's home win when they welcome Linthwaite Hall this week who haven't made a good start with two defeats to date. Lindley Lib A are the most fancied Division 2 team among the Fantasy League entrants and will be looking to play up to that level when meeting Thongsbridge A this week. Both teams are on 10-points so a win will create a gap between the teams.
