Winter League
We have finally arrived at the end of the 2024-25 Winter League season with the League Tables listed below after a weather-hit campaign finally overcome to end up with the eight Division Champions, the 14 promoted teams and the 16 relegated ones (assuming that there will be a Division 9 next term).
That is a total of 448 matches involving a total of 486 different bowlers with a male/female split as in the table below. The ladies are treated as equals in all aspects of winter bowling with no concessions for sex or age but the numbers are still interesting which you can draw your own conclusions from. I am pleased that, in total, a quarter of the bowlers that played in the League this season were lady bowlers.

The final tables highlight the promoted and relegated teams but the story doesn't end there. The League has historically tried to accommodate the wishes of all teams as regards the days that they play on. Over the early years that has been a key factor in encouraging teams to join and stay in the League. That has become increasingly difficult to fully support with a widely held view that the 'tail was wagging the dog' on occasions.
In an attempt to make the process clearer to all teams a new rule was introduced at the last AGM which has failed miserably to do what it set out to do and now the process has been revisited. The Management Committee at its next meeting will consider any bids by teams to decline promotion or avoid relegation. All the teams currently in the tables below in promotion or relegation places will be contacted in the next week and asked if they have a case for avoiding the move in status their final position would normally result in.
More on that as the process is progressed but just a warning that the tables below may not be a full record of where teams will be playing next season. For now let us enjoy and endure the successes and failures of the teams in each division.
