The BCGBA Champion-of-Champions competition marks its 50th Anniversary this weekend and have produced a report on the very first event held at the iconic Blackpool Waterloo Bowling Club in 1974.
This saw three Yorkshire qualifiers in the last 16 with Mirfield Old Bank bowler Bernie Warr progressing all the way through to the final where he was beaten by the Lancashire Merit winner.
The competition was sponsored by John Player & Sons with the Tom Thumb Cigar Trophy being presented to the winner along with a cheque for £1,000. Bernie collected the £500 runners-up purse.
