Winter League
All the action this coming week in the Winter League fixture programme.
MONDAY 21st
Division 4 at Primrose Hill Lib
Primrose Hill Lib enjoyed full-fat sunshine for the opening round of fixtures last week and we hope for more of the same tomorrow. We have four teams level top in the table all with 6 points. Two of those four face each other on Monday with Netherton Con A and Dalton meeting. The Slaithwaite v Thorpe Green C fixture has been postponed until Monday 4 November as Thorpe Green have a member's funeral on Monday.
TUESDAY 22nd
Division 8 at Lockwood Con Another four 6-2 scorelines from last week leaving all four level on top in the initial table. Again two of those four go head-to-head this Tuesday when Cowcliffe C and Linthwaite Hall B face up to each other.
WEDNESDAY 23rd
Division 3 at Springwood
Only two teams in this division remain unbeaten after two matches and they go head-to-head this Wednesday. Denby Dale have a 3-points lead over Lowerhouses B as the two teams meet up in the sure knowledge that at least one of them will remain unbeaten after this encounter.
Whilst at the foot of the table there are the only two teams looking for their first win also meeting each other. Huddersfield Recreation Club A and Brockholes A would really like to end their losing sequences and start to climb the table and maybe one of them will but first they need to win this Wednesday clash.
Divison 5 at Lindley Lib
The Division 5 fixture programme starts up this Wednesday (note day of the week switch) at Lindley Lib with the unknown newness of Elland WMC to test the promotion aspirations of all the teams in this division. Or maybe it will prove to be a step too far for the new boys. They have been placed at the highest level of any of the 10 new teams to the League and will be playing against 5 teams who played on this green all last season.
I am assured that the bacon butties will be back on the menu and also asked to inform all bowlers and spectators that both side gates will be open on Wednesday morning. Those being the gates on Daisy Lea Lane and Occupation Road so offering plenty of on-street parking options.
THURSDAY 24th
Division 6 at Netherton Con
Four teams on the 6-point mark after week 1 of the season and two of those teams meet up this week as the Recreation Club B take on Brockholes B. That also means that the bottom four teams are all on the same 2-points mark and two of those four meet with Outlane and Springwood C facing each other with the loser likely to finish the day at the bottom of the table as a result.
The Netherton Con B side is aiming to secure their top-of-the-table position for another week when they play Mirfield A on Thursday. Netherton are itching to give their new undercover seating areas a try-out following the arrival of the roofing material still to be fitted. That is promised for this week in preparation for a wet Thursday which is more the norm for the Netherton crew.
Division 7 at Huddersfield RUFC
The best-looking Division 7 match this week looks to be Marsh Lib v Hanging Heaton B with both teams on 10-points and sitting in 3rd and 4th positions. Lockwood Con B will be keen to get any points on the board after two opening 0-8 defeats. Things don't get any easier as they have to face 2nd in the table Cowcliffe B who have won both of their opening fixtures.
The Rugby Club have made a great start to the season with two big wins to date and meet Kirkheaton Con B on Thursday with a 4-point gap between the teams at present. When the teams played each other last season they took it in turn to win 6-2 and such a scoreline this week in the Kirkheaton team's favour would see the teams go level on points.
STILL TO START Division 1 at Milnsbridge starts on Wednesday 30 October
Division 2 at Cowcliffe Lib starts on Tuesday 29 October
All matchdays have an 11.00am start time
