Winter League
With two matches still to be played Thorpe Green are the 2024-25 Division title winners and Champions for a second successive season. A 6-2 win over relegation-threatened Lindley Lib A, a scoreline that none of their rivals could beat, this week means that they are 18 points clear with two fixtures left to be played.
The opening defence of their 2023-24 title success didn't go well with a draw and defeat in their first two matches but since then they have been untouchable winning 12 consecutive fixtures to match their predecessors, Lower Hopton, consecutive titles. There is every chance of the club adding to that success with two contenders in the Division 1 Top Bowler race for this prestigious achievement. Thorpe Green's Andy Wike sits at the top of the table (displayed below) with two matches still to be played.
They will be looking for an unprecedented hat-trick of titles next season which will be an even greater achievement as the challenge promises to be even greater than has been this season. The two teams likely to be promoted will bring a new challenge and raise the bar in standards to a level never seen before in winter bowling.
Cowcliffe have had an impressive introduction to Division 1 bowling this season and whatever the outcome of their final two matches will be well satisfied with their progress which currently sees them sitting second in the table. Their final day fixture against Thorpe Green A will be a real marker as to their progress.
The relegation matter has still to be resolved at the foot of the table with three teams in the battle to stay up. Kirkheaton Con A have a 7 points lead over Meltham A with two matches to be played but have the hardest run-in to the end of season. Matches against Thorpe Green A and Lower Hopton will test their resolve whilst the final day meeting of the bottom two teams, Meltham A and Lindley Lib A, could be irrelevant but it could also be key in determining next season's line-up.
