Veterans League
Clayton West bowler Tim Poulter is the 2024 John Hoyle Trophy winner after beating Ray Whitwam in Friday's final at Moldgreen Con. Tim is a serial entry into all competitions and a popular winner of this event which is to remember John Hoyle's contribution to local bowling primarily as the General Secretary of the Winter League from 2016-2019. The competition is staged at Moldgreen Con BC each year as a reminder of John's involvement in the move of Canalside BC from their long time home on Leeds Road to Moldgreen Con.
Tim beat Ray Whitwam in the final which followed a remarkable feat from Ray of beating all four Kirkheaton Con bowlers that had entered the competition. He had beaten Gary Foulkes and Gordon Walker prior to Finals Day and then eliminated Tony Butterfield and Garry Senior. Tim was on good form in all his three Finals Day matches with comprehensive victories in each of them.
The event has become a real charity event at the request of the Hoyle family with the Kirkwood Hospice benefitting from the competition and the League aimed for a record four-figure target this year which they were optimistic about reaching but has yet to be revealed.
