Winter League A preview of the Divisions 1 & 2 fixtures scheduled for Wednesday 10 January
A couple of shock results last week enabled Division 1 Champions, Lower Hopton, to take over at the top for the first time this season but that status will be thoroughly examined this week when they face deposed leaders Thorpe Green. After one win in the first four, Lower Hopton have upped their game to win their last five matches and a four-points lead as a result.
It was Kirkheaton Con A that inflicted that shock result on Thorpe Green last Wednesday and they will be looking to build on that to move away from the drop zone when they take on Clayton West this week. The West returned to the top three after an 8-0 win over Golcar Lib last week and will be aiming for another to confirm their top three status.
Things don't get any easier for Golcar Lib, who haven't presented the threat expected of them in this first season in the League and they meet New Mill A this week who beat them 8-0 earlier in the season.
Lowehouses A will be keen to narrow the gap to safety but will do well to beat Lindley BC A who lost for the first time in four last week and that was to the new table toppers. The Lowerhouses side hasn't won since their 2nd match of the season but the Lindley BC side is one of only two that they have beaten this season so they will be hopeful of repeating that result.
There is a top versus bottom clash in Division 2 as the unbeaten leaders, Cowcliffe A, will expect to extend their 9-match winning run when facing relegation-threatened Huddersfield Recreation Club A who did win their match last week but will do well to pick up any points at all this week.
Lindley Lib A have lost their last three fixtures and have to face the top two teams in their next two matches and if that sequence continues then they could find themselves in serious bother at the wrong end of the table. This Wednesday it is second-placed Milnsbridge in their sights who are a team still with visions of promotion but things are tight and they cannot afford to slip up now.
Lindley BC B were held to a 4-4 draw when they played Lockwood Con A earlier in the season but a repeat of that result will not be good enough to match their promotion ambitions as things remain very tight in the race for the second promotion place. Denby Dale are very much in that promotion mix and they too had a 4-4 draw earlier in the season against this week's opponents, Brockholes A.
