Winter League
To add to the postings on the Top Averages Division-by-Division run over the past week on HuddWeb we now add the previous Top Bowlers for the three seasons that we were keeping count. Prior to 2021 there was only the 2020-21 season which was disrupted by Covid which saw our first-ever season abandoned after Christmas with a 2nd lockdown proving insurmountable at that time.
Our inaugural season (2020-21) was a different format with only two divisions and in recognition of the concerns of all about Covid the fixtures featured four singles matches to support the social distancing which was regarded as so important at that time.
The 2020-21 season was abandoned after Christmas with a second lockdown imminent and running out of weeks before the greenkeepers wanted the greens back to prepare for the summer season. With 7 teams in each of the two divisions at that time the teams had played an uneven number of matches so it made awarding trophies based on player averages impossible to be fair. Therefore there are no official tables for player averages for that first 2020-21 season although they do sit in our Bowlsnet pages for that season.
Couple of things worth noting from these records:
Apart from Division 1, where there is no promotion to confuse things, only one bowler has appeared more than once in these top three records. That is Steve Lee in the Division 4 top three in both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
Although there are a number of instances where two bowlers from the same team appear in the top three, there is only one instance where the top three positions are all from the same team. That record goes to Cowcliffe A in the 2023-24 season. In fact Cowcliffe A provided the top four bowlers in that Division that year as Mick Higgins took 4th place in the end-of-season table.
The tables below capture all three completed seasons since 2021 and just show the top three finishers in each of the six divisions in existence before the start of the current season.
