Winter League
Preview of the matches to be played in Divisions 2 & 8 on Tuesday 12 November
Division 2 at Cowcliffe Lib
A real test for Hanging Heaton A the Division 2 leaders when they take on their nearest rival Lowerhouses A this Tuesday. Any win for Lowerhouses will see the positions reversed whilst a win for the current leaders will drive a huge wedge between the two teams.
Golcar Lib are well positioned to take full advantage of that clash as they have won both of their matches to date as well and take on Clayton West this week. Last year this was a Division 1 fixture when Clayton West beat the Golcar side twice by the same 8-0 scoreline. It seems inevitable in such a competitive division that a number of lower-placed teams will beat higher-placed opponents and that trend could start this week.
The two Lindley teams are both looking to collect their first points of the season. The Lindley BC B side will fancy their chances of breaking that duck when they play third-from-bottom Milnsbridge A as any other outcome could prove disastrous for their future involvement in playing at this level next year. Lindley Lib B have an even harder task when facing Marsh United so will be well-tested and anything other than a win cannot be contemplated if they are to become an established Division 1 team.
Division 8 at Lockwood Con
Another top-two confrontation as Golcar C&BC look to extend their winning run to five matches when meeting Lockwood Con C. This is the first of two real tests for the surprise leaders as they have to face 3rd-placed Cowcliffe C the following week. Two wins would send out a firm statement about their capabilities to the other teams in the division. Whatever the outcome the Golcar team will still be top of the table on Tuesday evening as their current 10-points lead cannot be surpassed but it could be severely dented.
If Cowcliffe C can beat this week's opposition, Holmfirth, then we could be looking at another top two confrontation next week as well. Holmfirth are still looking for their first Winter League win and will do well to reach that milestone against a Cowcliffe side that has started brightly. Bottom-of-the-table Kirkheaton C&BC B are also seeking their first win of the season and will do well to acheive that against this week's opponents, Mirfield B, whose only defeat this season was against the division leaders. That just leaves the Broad Oak B v Linthwaite Hall B encounter to complete the Tuesday programme.
